One of Cayley's glider design1799 to 1850’s - George Cayley was the first to fly a glider. He spent over 50 years to make improvements on his gliders and found the secrets of lift in the shape of a bird’s wing, that an arched wing would produce greater lift than a flat wing (wing warping) which is still used in the modern aviation technology.

Lilienthal's Glider in Flight1891 – Otto Lilienthal (a German mechanical Engineer) began successful gliding experiments and was the first person to design a glider that could fly long distance. He wrote a book on aerodynamics that was used by the Wright Brothers as the basis for their designs.
